Denglish Life

Kunst, Events und Live Musik

So viel Kultur, wohin man sieht!

First Fridays sind so voll davon

Free food, art, fun – I come along!

Brezel chains an jeder Ecke

Doch dauert’s noch bis ich entdecke

eins, das nicht vor Fett so trieft

I fear I got to wait now.. *schnief

until I’m back in Germany

We know how to bake properly :p

Doch nicht alles hier ist bad

Panera, Mexican – meine Welt!

Doch gesund hier equals teuer

Ich hoff’, ich werde nicht gefeuert..

Denn hoch ist hier die Work Moral

5 Urlaubstage sind normal

Sozialversicherung gibt’s so nicht

Deutschland, auf dich verlass ich mich

Schnee, Stuerme, blizzards und Eisregen

Das muss am Klimawandel liegen

Denke ich, doch – Was ist das?

Some Amis think: “Voelliger Quatsch!”

Den gibt’s doch gar nicht, nur blabla

Wow, das war mir so nicht klar..

Doch neben “Build a Wall” defendern

gibt’s Ausnahmen, zum Beispiel Sanders

Or normal, clear reflecting people

Who make this life here a littl’ less creepy

Kein Pfand, dafuer Desinfektion

5 Plastic bags, die kriegt man schon

beim Einkauf hinterhergeschmissen

kauf 4, zahl 3 will niemand missen

Doch water fountains sind her Hit!

Ganz egal wohin du gehst

Bring einfach deine Flasche mit

Und du niemehr um Wasser flehst

In Schulen, Kinos, grocery stores,

Please Germany, open your doors!

Even in Bars and Restaurants

Als side zu deinem BLT

U might get some cornichons

Doch tips sind high, oh jemine!

Wo Bus fahr’n zum adventure wird

Ja, ohne Auto geht hier nix

Laeufst du, fragen sie: Bist du verirrt?

Public transport ist nicht grad’ fix

Drunk driving leider not rare up here

Too much pride, “who cares” and beer

Doch Strafen hoch, policeman streng

Sie dich schnell in Ketten haeng’

Handschellen, prison, Fahrverbot

Just don’t be an Idiot!

“No parking” signs on Highway Ramps

Recht schlau, sonst macht es schnell mal “Baems

Ampeln on the other side

I like that, guarantees better sight!

Wo dich fremde Menschen herzlich gruessen

Dir Sachen schenken, den Tag versuessen

GASTFREUNDSCHAFT wird hier gross geschrieben

Deutsche, sie besonders lieben

Viele war’n dort stationiert

Oder reisten hin fuer’s Bier

Die Werbung ist ne Kunst fuer sich

Toss Snickers, Mars,

Mmm lieber mich!

Reeces pieces – ein Gedicht!

“Was, du bist fett, hast du gedacht?

Quatsch, take this pill,

waer doch gelacht!

Du bist sicher nur aufgeblaeht!”

Wer immer diese Welt versteht..

Unendliche TV Auswahl

Fuer’s zappen braucht man gerade mal

400 Channels, 2, 3 Stunden

Bis man endlich was gefunden

Hat, doch dann Pause

Alle 10 Minuten..

Grosszuegig spendieren sie

Nachte, Mahle, Tips – und wie!

Von Deutschem Geiz hier keine Spur

Trotz loans, Kreditenwie geht das nur?

Well, hier ist alles recht spontan

I guess, we’ll seedas geht schon klar

Doch sometimes these days are the best

Things happen, you’d never expect

Just let you go & feel the flow

Before you have to return home

Brezel-Asian-guitar Easter

Quiet family dinner, painting eggs, traditional church service..

That’s how Easter looks like for some families.

Well, not for me!

On Saturday morning, Giules, Matt and I helped out at the Egg Hunt Event @ HACC, which was fun! We helped cute little kids fulfilling their dream of a #SaturdaySugarShock by decorating Cookies with as much colorful icing as possible!

20160327_185051

The egg hunt was more a “collect as many plastic eggs as possible” on the lawn than a search, but the kids and families had fun! An guitar after-party with Justin was of course necessary!

After grocery shopping and the wasted search for Fresh/wet yeast (however that’s called here), Matt and I created our own20160326_182104 version of Laugen-brezel-(stueckchen)! The Lauge was pretty tricky, the perfectly shaped Brezel didn’t want to stay in shape in there.. But they were pretty good! (It’s not about the look!) New girl, dough funerals and fights, guitar jam, cantaloupe and ice cream durften natuerlich nicht fehlen!

First time having & using my selfie stick btw!

Asian Easter Sunday!

IMG-20160328-WA0007

Olha, Han and I went to a tiny, stuffed Asian shop where the shampoo is next to dried dates, instant noodles and crab chips, the naked chicken waves to you and mussles cry to be bought! We bought IMG-20160218-WA0021groceries there for our Asian Easter dinner, tried excotic and exciting snacks & prepared great Egg/Spring Rolls !

Chelsea-Laundromat-Rollerskating-Shoe House- ACTiON

My dear Chelsea is sick..

When I drove home from another Matt-Lisa-hang-out-German-lesson, my red beauty started smelling and making noises as if she wanted to tell me something. She was obviously a little angry that I didn’t understand her right away so that she started smoking out of her hood. We made it home after I successfully covered my clothes in gas and I took her to the car doc the next morning. Her radiator is broken but they fixed it now. Not having a car sucks though. Luckily my co-workers are extremely nice & Helpful played Chauffeur for me. Also, my good friend Juan likes to drive and picked me up to go out at the weekend. We did not only:

20160319_201413

  • watched my jacket spinning in a Washing Machine like cats at a Laundromat
    • discovered what happens if you add the whole packet of detergent
    • found a Chillaxing shirt in the machine
  • see the 5th wave (very good Distopian movie in a cute, shabby movie theater)
  • got free Rita’s ice on the first day of Spring, which was accompanied by snow flakes
  • went to the Library
  • Had dinner at Ruby Tuesdays

but aalso20160320_152053

  • saw the Shoe House in York (which we plan to visit in the real Spring to take a tour & have their great ice cream)

roll

and went Roller Skating at a Hip Hop night! It was a lot of fun but also a little stressful #fear #crowded #LikeVeryCrowded

So yes, it was a good weekend!

By the way, this is how American Zwieback looks like! – Not as sweet but edible

10363566_10207550234212985_280695677170733648_nWe had a St. Patrick’s Day Parade in York this Saturday!

It’s funny that the U.S. celebrates this day so much because in Ireland itself, people go to church and that’s basically it. However, it’s nice to see people celebrate another culture (even if it’s with breakfast a la drink as much as you can and keep your omelettes down)

Green hats, necklaces, Irish Dancers, fuzzy AnimalsGedudel and great costumes everywhere! It was of course nothing compared to our Karnevalszuegen in Koeln but it was nice! I got a(nother) caricature of myself and he even posted it on his facebook page and secretly told me (in a post on Facebook) that he liked mine the best 😀

Ice Skating, Food and Snapchat Entertainment

IMG-20160227-WA0001The Community Service Club from HACC provided Free Ice Skating Tickets! Giuliano took me as his guest to take this chance to embarrass ourselves!

Unlike my assumption, most people weren’t pros that could help me wobbling! But it worked out much better than I assumed! I stayed on my feet the whole 2h and probably belonged to the best 20% after some practice and dueste an den anderen vorbei! Giules managed a spectacular fall, which was quite funny. He was alright, got up again and kept sliding, fearless – Respect! food appleAfterwards, we went to Applebee’s which is actually not another Burger King-Wendy’s offshoot but a pretty nice American Restaurant with a great Burger, Steak and Healthy Food variety! He told me a bit about the political situation, corruption and crimes Brazil, which was quite interesting! It seems to be pretty bad and even Policeman, Officials or the Government are involved, which makes security is a rare good.

Not that I would approve Snapchat, but some features are quite funny..!

Ariel(le) and our secret trip..

For the first time, Mella, Erica and I have not only been to a real American High School but also seen the famous Lockers we only knew from High School movies!

Snapchat-6765960030023720634

We were there for the High School Musical (lol) Ariel(le) ! As we were too early, we started our secret High School exploring trip

20160227_190119

When we arrived at the Trophies and Cups, a man came around the corner to tell us that we were “Not supposed to be back here”. Well, we saw the greatest attractions already anyway 😀

Trophies

When I encountered that we have never been to a High School before, I could see his disbelief from the look on his face  (“How dumb do you think I am?” Or “How old are you guys?!” or “How homeschooled are you??)

20160228_122531The Musical was truly amazing! I’ve never been to one before, except for Elvis in Cologne (great, too btw). High School Musical PLUS Disney, even my favorite Disney movie – I really loved it! Not only because of this but also because those performers, who were around 15, 16 swept me off my feet! Such amazing voices, professionalism and expression – like Pros!
