Guess who’s back?!<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

My hosts and I did another trip to DC<\/strong> to go to the fancy Luncheon<\/em> <\/strong><\/span>with 4 German Bundestagsabgeordneten<\/em><\/span>, other exchange program participants, host families, brothers, sisters and organization people.<\/p>\n

As I could take the day off (after tax season)<\/em><\/span>, we spend the whole day together and had a lot of fun!<\/p>\n

After driving\u00a0 Jo’s granddaughter Kamden<\/span> <\/strong>to preschool (she’s adorable<\/strong><\/em><\/span>!) we drove down to Baltimore<\/strong>, because Mike wanted to show me where he works when he’s not doing home office. He works at a chicken distributor (oh, the smell<\/em>!) in Sales. When he was done with some work (on his day off – always busy<\/span>), we drove to Greenbelt<\/span><\/em> to take the Metro to DC<\/strong> – what an adventure, especially for my hosts as it was their first time<\/em><\/strong><\/span>! We were a little lost<\/span> as the German<\/span> <\/strong>Embassy<\/strong><\/span><\/em> didn’t provide any directions, so we asked p<\/strong>eople, p<\/strong>ersonnel and map<\/strong>s (online and physical) to get there.<\/p>\n

We ended up walking 1h<\/strong> <\/span>from the closest Metro station\u00a0through Georgetown<\/span><\/em>, which was nice (and warm!)! Georgetown is a nice part of DC with a lot of cute, little, different<\/em> houses close to the water<\/span> and so many<\/strong><\/span> restaurants, cafes and bars auf einem Haufen<\/em> I’ve never seen before!<\/p>\n

When we finally arrived at the Embassy,<\/span> we checked out who of those suit and dressHeel<\/em> people were German and who were Americans<\/span><\/strong> #LanguageListening<\/em>. It was actually pretty funny to hear the German staff talk English with such a strong<\/em><\/span> Germ<\/strong>an ac<\/strong><\/span><\/span>cent<\/strong><\/span>!<\/em> I met a bunch of nice American & German participants & host siblings, most of them were High School students though.<\/p>\n

After an introduction\/welcome speech from the German Abgeordneten<\/strong><\/em> (and translator<\/em>), 2 loads<\/span> of Schnitzel,<\/strong> <\/span>potatoes, bean\/pea risotto<\/span>, fish and salad<\/span> <\/strong>(& dessert) on the patio, we were called inside for a Stuhlkreis meeting.<\/em><\/strong><\/span> Hosts were separated from students and asked for feedback & suggestions. It was great to have the chance to talk about our positive experiences<\/span><\/strong><\/em> but also to explain what didn’t go smoothly<\/em><\/strong> and what could be improved. They really listened, asked and cared. Even though I had some struggles speaking formal German again – English is just so much easier<\/strong><\/span>!<\/p>\n

After that, we checked another point off the list that hasn’t been on there before<\/span> – taking Uber<\/strong><\/span>! I’ve done it once at the very beginning of my stay in DC when I stayed with Laura. Jo used her app and it worked – twice! It works without cash – only card to prevent robbing. You pay for the miles and a start price. It is a great way to get somewhere quickly while meeting new people<\/span>! \u00a0We visited the huge, impressive, beautiful<\/em> Washington National Cathedral<\/strong><\/span>. Unfortunately, the top that allows an amazing view over DC was closed already (5pm!!)<\/strong><\/em> but we went out- and inside and took some selfies #SelfieSkills<\/em><\/strong> (But only outside as a sign inside prohibited selfie sticks – Generation Y)<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
