Mit Flip Flops in den Mountains

Nach einer wundervollen Zeit in Milan, Illinois ging unsere Reise weiter zurück Richtung Chicago. Dort trennte sich unsere kleine Gruppe abermals, sodass Steffi, Ann-Kathrin und ich uns allein Richtung O’Hare Airport aufmachten. Ann-Kathrins Flieger brachte sie nach North Dakota, wo sie ihr Jahr verbringen wird. Steffi und ich machten uns auf nach Denver, Colorado.
Nach einem furchtbaren Flug und stundenlangen Warterei kamen wir wohlbehalten in der Hauptstadt Colorados an und wurden von unserem neuen Host begrüßt. Nina und Nick leben mit ihren Zwillingen in einer typisch amerikanischen Nachbarschaftssiedlung. Beide haben bereits Austauscherfahrungen während Ihrer Studienzeit gesammelt (Nina hat selbst am PPP von amerikanischer Seite teilgenommen) und deshalb stets eine offene Tür bzw. ein Bett für durchreisende Austauschstudenten übrig. Beide arbeiten für den Staat Colorado (Nina im Office of the Auditor und Nick am Gericht), sodass wir die Möglichkeit hatten, beide Gebäude bzw. Arbeitsplätze kennenzulernen.
Colorado ist eines der Staaten, in welchem Marihuana legal ab dem 21. Lebensjahr zu erwerben ist. Solche Orte sind meist mit einem grünen leuchtenden Kreuz markiert, wie uns Nina erklärte. Für mich ist das ziemlich unheimlich, da ich mit solchen Dingen Gott sei Dank noch nie in Berührung gekommen bin. Man sieht hier allerdings viele Menschen die gerade „high“ sind, oder sich das nächste Päckchen mit Bettelei beschaffen. Von diesen Dingen abgesehen, ist Denver echt sehenswert! Es gibt viele Kunstmuseen und Street-Art die man unbedingt mal gesehen oder besucht haben sollte.
Natürlich ist Colorado bekannt für seine Red Mountains. Deshalb fuhren wir heute nach Boulder, einem kleineren Ort ca. 45 Minuten von Denver entfernt. Boulder ist berühmt für seine Universität und die Menschen die dort leben. Da der Stadt nicht erlaubt ist, das Gebiet weiter zu besiedeln, sind die Preise für Häuser und Wohnungen unglaublich teuer. Denn die Nachfrage ist riesig! Eine der bekannten „Sehenswürdigkeiten“ ist neben den Bergen die Pearl Street. Sie beherbergt eine kunterbunte Mischung aus verschiedenen kleinen Boutiquen, Straßenkünstlern und Abendveranstaltungen.
Zum Schluss haben wir es uns natürlich nicht nehmen lassen, die Berge spontan selbst zu erklimmen. Zumindest einen kleinen. Da wir abends noch zum Dinner eingeladen waren, viel unsere Bergsteigausrüstung eher erbärmlich aus. Mit Sandalen und Flip Flops bewaffnet kraxelten wir bei gefühlten 50 Grad Celsius die staubigen, kakteenbewachsenen Felsen hoch. Belohnt wurden wir mit einem sagenhaften Blick über die Stadt und die Bergtäler.
Erst später bemerkten wir beim Abstieg das Hinweisschild, welches Wanderer vor Berglöwen und Bären warnt. Ich frage mich wie unsere Verteidigungsstrategie ausgesehen hätte. Vielleicht hätten uns die Tiere bei unserem Anblick gar nicht richtig ernst genommen!
Morgen geht’s es zu meinem ersten Baseballspiel! Danach heißt es auch schon wieder Abschied nehmen, denn am Sonntag werde ich endlich (hoffentlich) in Wyoming ankommen.
Na hallo, meine Kleine, da erinnerst du mich spontan an ein Erlebnis in „jüngeren Jahren“, als Tim und Caro noch klein waren. Wir verbrachten einen kurzen Urlaub in Berchtesgaden und ich bin in Sommersandalen mit Absatz in den Bergen wandern gegangen. Als wir Urbayern trafen, sahen die mich total ungläubig an und fragten ob ich denn so zur Eishöhle am Watzmann will. Aber ich hab es geschafft. Wir sind uns da in manchen Dingen sehr ähnlich. Ich hoffe du tauscht die Flipps aber beim nächsten wandern aus. Ansonsten hast du ja bis jetzt eine aufregende Reise und wir freuen uns das es die gut geht, aber bitte sei vorsichtig, wegen der Bären und so. Letzte Woche stand bei uns in der Zeitung, das im Yelloston ein erfahrener Wanderrer von einem Bären getötet wurde, nicht gerade aufmunternd für ängstliche Eltern.Man sollte dort immer in Gruppen gehen war die Empfehlung.Den letzten Abschnitt deiner Reise trittst du nun allein an, das wird bestimmt erst mal etwas traurig, aber du kannst auf neue Begegnungen gespannt sein . Wir begleiten dich im Gebet… Hallo, hier meldet sich mal dein Papa! Meine liebe Luisa ich bin ganz stolz auf dich, weil du so unerschrocken den nord- amerikanischen Kondinent eroberst. Das hätte ich nicht richtig geglaubt, wenn das mir jemand erzählt hätte. Tja, was alles in unseren Kindern steckt, – Nun bist du bald am Ziel und ein neuer, sicherlich auch schwieriger Abschnitt der Reise beginnt. Wir wünschen dir weiterhin gutes Gelingen und das du den Mut, den ich beachtenswert finde, nicht verlierst. Übrigens hatten wir gestern im Fernsehen den Herrn Dr. Feist gesehen.-
