Die Ausreise r\u00fcckt n\u00e4her<\/h3>

Da nun die letzten wenigen Tage in Deutschland anbrechen beginne ich langsam mit der Vorbereitung der letzten n\u00f6tigen Schritte. Alle wichtigen Dokumente werden kopiert und gesichert. W\u00e4re schlecht, wenn ich mich in den Staaten in irgendeiner Situation nicht ausweisen k\u00f6nnte. Der Koffer wird gepackt.<\/p>\n

Wie packt man einen Koffer mit max. 23 Kilo, wenn man \u201eauswandert\u201c? Keine Ahnung.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Departure is approaching<\/h3>

Since it\u2019s the last view days in Germany I am starting to prepare the last steps. Important documents are being copied and saved. Would be a quite bad situation if I can\u2019t prove my identity in the US. Packing my suitcase and stuff.<\/p>\n

How do you pack a suitcase with max. 50 lbs. for living abroad? I have no idea.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Weiter ist darauf zu achten, dass man sich um die ben\u00f6tigte W\u00e4hrung k\u00fcmmert. Im Fall USA bekanntlicher Weise US-Dollar. Leider stehen, die Sterne f\u00fcr W\u00e4hrungsdifferenzensparf\u00fcchse derzeit leider schlecht, denn Aufgrund langanhaltender Krisen im Euroraum ist der Euro stark geschw\u00e4cht und liegt beinahe bei 1:1. So musste ich f\u00fcr New York und f\u00fcr die Weiterreise zum Sortenkurs von 1,04 kaufen. Der Rest meines Hab und Guts wartet darauf, dass ich mein amerikanisches Bankkonto einrichte. Hoffentlich ist der Divisenkurs dann erfreulicher.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

As well you have to think of the needed currency, which in my case is US-Dollar as you probably know. Currently everyone that hopes for the big pay day with changing currency is going to be disappointed due to a big financial crisis of the euro room. I got some cash for my first days in New York and for further travel and had to buy it for 1.00\/1.04 which probably the highest price for Dollar since the Euro was born. The rest of my European currency is going to wait for my American bank account and I hope for a better exchange rate at that time.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Geschenke<\/h3>

Thema Gastgeschenke. Was schenkt man einer Familie, die man nicht kennt? Schwierig. Flensburger? Bier? Rum? Heikle Sache, da Alkoholisches die Beziehung zu deiner amerikanischen Gastfamilie leicht auf die Probe stellen k\u00f6nnte. Ich hab mich f\u00fcr den Klassiker entschieden. Naschkram und gehe mit einem \u00fcbersetzten deutschen Kochbuch auch auf die bereits kommunizierten Interessen der Familie ein.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Presents<\/h3>

Next: Presents. What do you give to a family you don\u2019t know as a present? Difficult. Flensburger Beer or Rum? Not the best idea. Alcoholic beverages are for US-American host families not the best things to bring. It could easily ruin the first impression and make building a relationship difficult. I\u2019ve chosen the classic style. Sweets. Since everyone loves sweets. Probably. I know the family loves cooking and they asked me to bring my favorite recipe so I decided to get a german cooking book. Of course translated.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

New York City, ich komme!<\/h3>

Die Ausreise findet am 4.8. statt und geht von Frankfurt nach New York. Einige meiner Mitstipendiaten und ich treffen uns allerdings schon vorher in Frankfurt und verbringen dort einige Zeit. Vom AO Hotel geht es dann in den Morgenstunden zum Flughafen, wo uns Mitarbeiter der Austauschorganisation erwarten und verabschieden werden.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Date of departure is 08\/04\/ from international Airport Frankfurt. Some of the other scholarship receivers decided to meet up one night before the big day and share some time together. The next day we will take of direction airport, where some exchange organization employees are going to wait for us to give last instructions and say good bye.<\/p>\n
