Alright, BiG NEWS!
Long story short – Andrea and Sean are going on a long vacation in May and told my exchange orga that they wanted me to move out rather than stay in their house on my own. Coming back wuerde sich nicht lohnen (for 1 month), von daher – good luck finding a new host family for the rest of your stay! Thanks for telling me, Cultural Vistas and HACC!
After the first shock, I setzte alle Hebel in Bewegung, asked every single person in York I know for help, talked to CV, my College Coordinator at HACC, my employer, workplace, LCBC…. I was busy and stressed out! But everyone was very helpful and spread the word for me, especially my friends, co-workers and LCBC! After just about one week, LCBC had 2 families that wanted to meet/host me! One in Spring Grove and one in York. After I spoke with the first one, it seemed to be a great fit but I wanted to give the other family a try. I met them at the LCBC Cafe where I volunteer on Easter Sunday where they invited me for dinner for the next day – how nice! They showed me their beautiful. huge house, we had delicious (healthy!) relaxed dinner together and spoke about the key things – I couldn’t believe it!
They are not only:
- Super nice, funny and open
- Very laid-back and easy going
- So generous
- living in a great neighborhood 5 mins from my old home
- have a big family who comes over quite often
but also offered me to:
- join their camping trips
- join them for Hershey Park with their Season passes
- visit their family members in Boston, NYC and Florida
- do my own thing on my own floor (!)
And guess what! When I asked them about the $225 host stipend I used to pay, they strictly refused to take any money from me! I can buy some of my special Pumpernickel goodies myself but that’s it. I shall please just take what I need, they cok a lot, I can have dinner with them or cook myself, I won’t have to clean anything but my room, can have friends over and come home whenever I want when I tell them. #BestThingCouldHaveHappened
